Last June, at the WOO Annual Congress in Mexico City, President Tom Goddard made a poignant and powerful statement. He declared, “I hope that we will return to our bases in Corporate Responsibility Instincts and make our inventories more accessible to initiatives like Essays for Peace.” This September, we have the opportunity to answer that call.
Essays for Peace is a simple yet profound initiative. For a few moments on September 21, we are asked to replace the contents on our digital screens with the image of a single lit candle. A flicker of light that needs no translation, a symbol of hope and unity that resonates in every culture. Last year, this simple act created a global wave, with candles appearing on screens from New York to New Delhi, from Auckland to Buenos Aires.
To participate, you simply need to download the video of the candle in one of the 300 formats available and schedule it on your digital screens (the more, the better) on September 21 starting at midnight. Maybe a few seconds or minutes during that 24 hours. If you can make images or videos of your most iconic screens and share them in social media using #EssaysForPeace. For more information and to get involved, please visit the Essays for Peace website and contact them at essaysforpeace@gmail.com to share your experiences, images, videos so they may be aware of your participation.
This isn’t just about donating ad space; it’s about demonstrating the power of our medium to unite, to inspire, and to connect people on a massive scale. It's about showing the world that our industry is not just a platform for commerce, but also for compassion.
This year, the movement is growing exponentially. Starting in early September, screens in Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands will begin to display the candles, anticipating the main event. We have a chance to not only join this wave but to lead it.
On September 21, let's light up the world with peace. We invite every WOO member to commit a portion of their digital inventory to display the Essays for Peace candle.
This is a statement. A bold and visible commitment to our corporate responsibility. It’s an opportunity to use our collective influence for the greater good and to remind the world that OOH is a force for positive change.
