A special initiative for the air we breathe

Politis Group, through its CSR initiative and on the occasion of the World Environment Day, installed four innovative pollution reduction systems, in Omonia Square. This specific area was chosen because it has high concentrations of polluted microparticles, a continuous flow of vehicles and a large height of buildings round and about that hold pollution (Street Canyon condition). As a result, the breathing air quality is poor, affecting everyone who passes through.

These systems are special filters called “Pamares”, which are placed on poles and have the ability to absorb microparticles, cleaning the air we breathe. According to scientific studies, each Pamares device has the ability to absorb 3 grams of microparticles smaller than 10 μm daily. If we take into account that trees with a diameter of 300-450mm. absorb about 140 grams per year – i.e. 0.4 grams per day – we come to the conclusion that each device corresponds to 7.5 mature trees. Via this action, it is as if a total of 30 trees were planted in Omonia Square.

Politis Group – through Politis Technologies – invests on Smart City technologies and acknowledges the use of modern technological means, for the benefit of their residents. These are technologies that, among others, can achieve more efficient management of the available resources, lower emissions, smarter public transport networks and energy and water savings.
Focusing on the benefit that can result from a coordinated effort to improve air quality, the Group took advantage of the “Adopt Your City” program of the Municipality of Athens, taking a step towards a better environment.

As the exclusive representative and strategic partner of the leading Dutch company Mark Climate Technology, Politis Group and Politis Technologies installed the filters, whose patented technology guarantees the absorbsion of microparticles, has very low consumption (18W), it is completely safe for humans and animals, and its operation is almost silent (max. 30 db).
These filters are used all over the world, not only in areas with heavy air pollution, such as urban centers, ports and industrial areas, but also in schools, kindergartens and parks, contributing significantly to the purification of the atmosphere.

The aim of this initiative is to improve the daily lives of citizens by taking advantage of technology, for the benefit of public health.
